Jogging early in the morning is one of the most effective forms of exercise out there. But I, being a night owl, always hated the thought of waking up early to go for a run.

So naturally, I wanted a better alternative that is more suited for people like me. And that’s when I discovered the fantastic benefits of jumping on a trampoline.

Now, I have had a trampoline in my yard in almost every stage of my life. My dad first introduced me to it, and I got so used to it that I always kept one in my backyard even after I grew up. But when I found out that trampoline jumping is just as much, if not more, effective than running, I was over the moon.

I have been working out on my trampoline ever since and have managed to stay fit and healthy without running a day afterward. And if you dread running just as much as me, then you might want to think about getting a trampoline yourself.

Is A Mini Trampoline Better Than Running?

Mini trampolines or rebounders are a fantastic option for those who do not want to invest in a full-fledged jumping trampoline. Even if you do decide to get a treadmill, it will most likely take up a lot more space inside your home compared to a mini trampoline. Besides, a treadmill is not that portable. However, you can pack up your mini trampoline and take it with you out to the backyard if you feel like working out under the sun.

A mini trampoline is extremely versatile and gives you access to many different workout techniques. So, you will be able to activate more muscles and can focus on specific areas to work on. With running, you get a full-body workout but cannot target specific body parts to focus on.

The only sector where running might be in the lead is burning calories. Sure, you can burn a lot of calories with a mini trampoline and the right exercise, but the rate of calorie burn per minute is still higher with jogging.

But still, the calorie burn that you get with a decent mini trampoline is pretty great. Let me give you two great exercises if you are looking to lose weight and burn calories with your mini trampoline.

1. Jumping Jacks:

Jumping jack is an extremely versatile exercise that you can use to warm up or get a full-body workout. If you speed up the exercise, you will also be able to get a good cardio workout.

  • You want to alternate between legs together and apart from each bounce. Make sure you keep your balance when your legs are apart.
  • During the legs apart bounces, you want to swing out your arms above your head, maintaining a circular motion.
  • During the legs together bounces, bring back the arms towards the side of your body.

2. Seated Bounce:

Seated bounce is another great cardio workout that is great for warming up. The best thing about this exercise is that while it might be great for beginners, you can ramp up its difficulty by lifting one or both feet off the ground.

  • You want to sit at one edge of your rebounder so that your hips are on the jumping mat and your feet are flat on the floor. Keep your knees bent slightly.
  • Push yourself up and start jumping on the trampoline using your thighs. Make sure you maintain your seated stance while doing this exercise.

Besides, you can bounce on your trampoline in the morning, in the afternoon, and even at night (though I would not advise it). While most runners agree that jogging early in the morning is the best way to run without distractions as there is no traffic to worry about.

2. It’s Low Impact

Both jogging and jumping on a trampoline are considered low-impact exercises. This means you do not have to put a lot of strain on your muscles and joints when you are running or jumping on a trampoline, unlike gym workouts such as pull-ups, crunches, or bench presses.

The best thing about a low-impact workout is that you will be able to train your muscles and joints all the same without feeling the same level of exhaustion. However, since trampoline jumping burns calories faster, it can be considered a lower impact workout compared to running.

3. It Saves Time

Did you know that jumping on a trampoline for only five to eight minutes equals running almost a mile? For an average person with a good physique, running a mile takes about 15 to 20 minutes. He will also need to take 2500 steps, and each of those steps will send a shockwave throughout his joints.

With trampoline jumping, you can get the full benefit of running a mile faster and easier. You will not feel as exhausted, burn a decent number of calories and also save a couple of minutes that you can spend elsewhere.

4. More Family Time

A trampoline is not only a great exercise tool for adults; it can be a fun tool for kids too. If you have a big enough trampoline with a good weight capacity, you can jump on it along with your kids. In other words, you will be able to have a fun afternoon every day if you want.

While you might be able to go running with your family too, it can be hard convincing your kids to go jogging every morning. But give them a trampoline, and they will jump on it whenever you want to spend time with them. But if you do want to get it for the entire family, make sure you buy a huge rectangular trampoline.

If you have health issues such as osteoporosis, running a mile might not be a good idea. Not only will it be downright painful, but also you might worsen your health condition. However, if you have a trampoline at home, jumping on it can lessen the symptoms and make you healthier.
